Wow! Ich hatte diesen Blog echt völlig vergessen… Sorry Leute! Es gibt einiges zu berichten: Ein Teil des Moddings ist fertig, drei neue Modding-Ideen sind aufgetaucht und eine Korrektur muss ich auch noch vornehmen. Einige Bilder gibts auch noch im Anschluss.

Das Case

Doch beginnen wir mal von vorne, mit dem beendetem Mod: das Case. Ich dachte aufgrund einiger Rezensionen, dass das DS-Case von Dealextreme scheisse sei, habe es aber dann wegen dem günstigen Preis (keine Versandkosten) einem Ghost-Case vorgezogen. Es ist zwar nicht ganz perfekt, aber doch sehr gut! Ich kann es euch also wirklich empfehlen.

die LEDs

Sowohl PulseVU (Lichtsteuerungschip) als auch die LEDs sind angekommen. Die LEDs wegen einem Fehler seitens Paypal sogar 2x, aber das muss der Shop ja nicht wissen . Ich habe nun also 20 LEDs, brauche ca. 6-10, habe also noch genügend übrig, falls ich was zerhauen würde. Dies wäre nicht mal so schwierig, denn die Dinger sind echt klein: ca. 1.5 x 1 x 0.5mm! Wünscht mir also viel Glück und ne ruhige Hand beim Löten…

neue Modidee 1: Die Schultertasten reparieren

Da L nun endgültig tot ist, und R zeitgleich auch nur noch sehr selten funktionirt, werde ich die ausgeleierten Druckknöpfe ersetzen. Kostenpunkt: Keine Ahnung, ich werde mir wohl nen kaputten DS zum Ausschlachten bestellen müssen. Gibts z.B. hier (eBay), hier (eBay), hier (Ricardo) oder mit etwas Glück oder einer Anfrage hier (Acidmods-Forum) oder hier (NDS-Toolz-Forum)

neue Modidee 2: Externer Antennenanschluss für WiFi-Antennen

Da ich mir aus Tollpatschigkeit beim Umdrehen des geöffneten DS das Kabel der Antenne geschlissen hatte, muss ein Ersatz her. Und wieso soll ich bitte einfach nochmals ne Antenne einbauen? Das wär ja langweilig und kein Modding. Also hatte ich etwas nachgeforscht, und mir nun einen Adapter vom internen DS-Antennenanschluss (U.FL, U/FL, Ibex, IBX, Mini-SMA, je nach Hersteller) zu einem normalen Antennenanschluss (RP-SMA) gekauft. Ausserdem habe ich mir eine 8dbi-Antenne sowie eine kleinere 2dbi-Antenne bestellt. Reichweite der 8dbi-Antenne: 400-500m (!!!).
Kostenpunkt: Billig von eBay 2€, qualitativ aus Deutschland (war mein Favorit) ca. 20€. Gibts hier und hier (eBay) oder hier und hier / hier und hier (Deutschland).

Neue Modidee 3: Übertaktung

Ich habe nun auch noch von einem Chip (GBAccelerator DS) gehört, der echt klasse ist:Mit ihm ist es recht einfach, den DS on the fly zu übertakten (0.66x bis 1.8x). Was das bringen soll? Man kann Games schneller oder langsamer laufen lassen und so sie einfacher oder schwieriger gestalten oder auch nervige Dialoge überspringen. In Apps renderen so Webseiten schneller, DSLinux läuft besser oder Emus laufen flüssiger. Und falls der DS mal langsamer laufen kann, spart das erst noch Akku. Ausserdem ists ein Mod und einfach cool. Punkt.
Kostenpunkt: 32€ (16€ für den Chip und 16€ Versand International….)

Whew, I really totally forgot this blog! Sorry volks… There are some really cool news: One mod is already done, I’ve got three new modding-idea and I have to correct something.

The case

Let’s start with the case, it’s already done. I read some comments about the dealextreme-case and I thought it is crappy. But because of the lower price (no shipping costs) I ordered it instead of a Ghost one. It isn’t that perfect, but really good!

the LEDs

The PulseVU and the LEDs have arrived. I got the LEDs because of a mistake by Paypal two times, but the shop doesn’t have to know that . So I’ve 20 LEDs now, but I only will use 6-10, so I’ve got enough spare leds if I’d fuck up distroy one or two. But it won’t get easy, the LEDs are really small! Around 1.5 x 1 x 0.5 millimeters (0.06 x 0.04 x 0.02 inches)!

new modding-idea 1: Fix the shoulder buttons

Becase of my now really dead L button, and a R-button which doesn’t work properly, eihter, I’ll replace the buttons with new ones. I don’t know what’s the price of it is, I think I’ve to find a broken to get spare parts.You can get one here (eBay) or if you are lucky you can ask in the Acidmods-forums.

New modding-idea 2: External antenna-jack for WiFi

Because of my broken WLAN-antenna in the DS (I damaged the jack…) I need a replacement. So I thought “why the heck should you simply use a normal ds antenna?” This would be too boring and no mod… So I did some research and I found an adapter from the internal Wifi-Jack (U.FL, U/FL, Ibex, IBX, Mini-SMA, depends on the manufacturer) to a standard antenna jack (RP-SMA) and ordered it. And I ordered a 8dbi and a smaller 2dbi-antenna. The range of the 8dbi-antenna: 400-500m (1300 to 1600 feet) (!!!).

New modding-idea 3: Overclocking the DS

I’ve also heard from a really cool chip: GBAccelerator DS. With that chip you can easly overclock the DS on the fly (even in a game!) from .66x to 1.8x. What is the sense of this? You can speed up or slow down games and adjust the difficulty with that or skip lazy dialogues. In apps like browsers websites render faster, DSLinux runs faster or emus run better.
The chip costs around 25$ (and if you life outside of the USA, 25$ for the shipping -.-)
